To celebrate the summer solstice, Hunter Douglas partnered with Sheldon Chalet, a luxury property located in Alaska’s Denali National Park, to transform and block the rays of the harsh summer sun—installing Silhouette® ClearView® Shadings and Duette® Honeycomb Shades with LightLock® to showcase just how powerful Hunter Douglas window coverings can be when faced with unique circumstances.
Watch our Alaskan adventure here.
The property, known as Sheldon Chalet, is perched at an elevation of 5,800 feet in Alaska’s Denali National Park. The incredible panoramas feature vertical grandeur including the summit of Denali, only 10 miles away and visible from every vantage point. Air transportation is the only way to reach Sheldon Chalet which sleeps up to ten guests in five bedrooms. The dream of Alaskan visionaries Don and Roberta Sheldon, Sheldon Chalet offers guests life-expanding experiences at the only destination on the flanks of North America’s highest mountain. There are no roads, rails or trails accessing the area. The closest town of Talkeetna is 55 air miles away.
In the living room of the chalet, we installed Silhouette ClearView Shadings to maintain the otherworldly views from the chalet, while filtering out the harsh rays. The shadings feature soft, adjustable S-shaped vanes that appear to be floating between two sheer fabrics. They are unique in that they are made with a combination of front and back sheers that maximize the view of the outdoors.
In the bedrooms, Duette Honeycomb Shades with LightLock were added for year-round insulation and light control. LightLock is the first operating system of its kind to offer unparalleled darkness. The secret lies within the patent-pending side channel design, optimized to absorb or deflect nearly all incoming light. It has been painstakingly engineered with a unique U-shaped side-channel system that features rows of specially shaped micro-ridges, optimized to absorb or deflect nearly all incoming light. LightLock blends seamlessly into the window frame, preventing light leakage that is inherent with most blackout shades. Easily achieve unparalleled darkness—no matter the location or season.
